NCLEX-RN
By the end of this lesson, you should be able to: - Describe how the amniotic membranes, fluid, fetus, placenta, and umbilical cord function as an interdependent environment. - Explain how fetal urine, fetal lung fluid, swallowing, and intramembranous absorption determine amniotic fluid volume. - Interpret AFI and single deepest pocket measurements, including the thresholds for borderline fluid, oligohydramnios, and severe oligohydramnios. - Link abnormal fluid volume to recognizable fetal, maternal, and intrapartum risks rather than treating an ultrasound number in isolation. - Select nursing assessments, medication-safety actions, surveillance priorities, and escalation steps for low or excessive amniotic fluid.
