NCLEX-PN
NCLEX-PN
Acute myeloid leukemia (AML) begins with clonal expansion of immature myeloid precursors. These myeloblasts accumulate in the marrow and blood, leaving less space and capacity for normal red-cell, granulocyte, and platelet production. One disease process can therefore produce fatigue or dyspnea from anemia, infection risk from neutropenia, and bleeding from thrombocytopenia. Treatment adds a second time-sensitive problem. Rapid destruction of leukemic cells can precipitate tumor lysis syndrome, while chemotherapy-related neutropenia can make fever an emergency. For the LVN/LPN, safe care means recognizing abnormal trends, carrying out clear orders, reassessing response, and promptly reporting findings that exceed stable, predictable care or require clinical judgment beyond practical-nurse scope.
