NCLEX-PN
Cesarean birth solves an immediate obstetric problem while creating a fresh abdominal and uterine wound, a large placental attachment site that must contract, and a postpartum state that favors venous clot formation. The bedside priorities therefore connect three threats: hemorrhage, infection, and thromboembolism. The timing of care matters. Before incision, prevent infection, aspiration, and avoidable anesthesia complications. Immediately after birth, determine whether uterine tone and blood loss are following the expected course. During recovery, protect circulation, breathing, mobility, feeding, and wound healing. A patient may look stable while a boggy uterus, falling urine output, increasing pain, or new respiratory symptoms signals deterioration; the nurse links that finding to the complication it suggests and escalates before shock or sepsis develops.
