How it works

  1. Step 1

    Understand your NMBI route

The Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland assesses each applicant's qualifications and decides the route, which may include a period of adaptation or an aptitude test.

  2. Step 2

    Build the underlying clinical knowledge

Whichever route NMBI sets, the clinical reasoning it assesses is the same body of knowledge our lessons teach.

  3. Step 3

    Practise applied questions

Rationale-rich questions train applied decision making rather than isolated recall.

  4. Step 4

    Revise against your gaps

Performance tracking directs revision to weak areas instead of rereading what you already know.

Exam and registration guides

  • NMBI registration overviewHow Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland registration works, including the adaptation and aptitude test routes for internationally educated nurses.

Why you can rely on this

  • NMBI process, not a borrowed one

Irish registration is presented as NMBI runs it. Another country's licensure examination is never substituted for it.

  • Deferred to the regulator

Fees, timelines and decision criteria change, so the content directs you to NMBI's current guidance rather than freezing a number into a page.

  • Clinical content under active review

Lessons and questions are monitored against their source guidelines and withdrawn from delivery when a source materially changes.

Frequently asked questions

How do internationally educated nurses register with NMBI?
You apply to the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland, which assesses your qualifications and experience and then sets your route. That decision can include a period of adaptation or an aptitude test. NMBI's current guidance defines your exact requirements.
Is there a single Irish nursing entry examination?
Ireland does not run a single universal entry examination in the way some countries do. NMBI's assessment of your individual application determines what, if anything, you must complete.
Does English language proficiency matter?
NMBI sets English language requirements for applicants whose training or practice was not conducted in English. Check their published thresholds, which are updated from time to time.
Can NCLEX preparation help me register in Ireland?
The clinical reasoning transfers, but the registration systems are not interchangeable. Preparing for a different country's licensure examination does not satisfy NMBI's requirements.
