Why Vaccination Changes Risk
Vaccination is both an immunology decision and a safety screen.
NCLEX-RN
NCLEX-RN
Vaccination is both an immunology decision and a safety screen. The RN determines whether the patient needs the vaccine, whether the selected product and route fit the patient, and whether a contraindication or precaution changes the plan. Vaccines create active immune memory without causing the targeted disease, but the protection is useful only when the correct product is given safely. A patient who develops airway swelling, respiratory distress, or hypotension after vaccination has moved from routine observation to emergency treatment. The sections that follow connect immune mechanisms with screening, administration, monitoring, and escalation decisions tested on the NCLEX-RN.
