NCLEX-RN
Airborne precautions are added to Standard Precautions when an infectious agent can remain suspended in small airborne particles and travel beyond the immediate bedside. The response has three linked parts: contain the air, protect the person entering it, and limit movement of the patient. The organism and the patient’s immune status then determine how long precautions continue and how exposed patients or healthcare personnel are managed.
