Traumatic Head Injury

Traumatic Head Injury matter in PMHNP preparation because they sit at the boundary between routine care and avoidable harm. Traumatic head injury requires early recognition of neurologic deterioration and prevention of secondary injury. Learners must not dismiss worsening headache, vomiting, confusion, anticoagulant exposure, pupil change, seizure, or cervical spine risk. For Psychiatric-mental health NP readiness, the learner must not memorize a list in isolation. The safer pattern is to ask what patient problem is being treated, what physiologic change is expected, what finding would make the treatment unsafe, and which action fits psychotropic interaction review, symptom differentiation, safety screening, adherence barriers, and referral.
