What CNPLE questions test
CNPLE items are scenario-based and test clinical decision-making within the NP scope of practice. A typical item presents a chief complaint, history, and relevant assessment findings, then asks you to identify the most likely diagnosis, select the most appropriate initial investigation, or choose the safest management action.
Items emphasize primary care contexts, chronic disease management, geriatric care, pediatric presentations, reproductive and sexual health, and mental health — all common in Canadian NP practice.
Using practice questions effectively
Do not skip rationales even for questions you answered correctly. The CNPLE tests whether you arrived at the right answer for the right reason — understanding why the other options were wrong is as important as recognizing the correct one.
