NCLEX-RN
An immunization schedule is a risk-management plan, not a calendar to follow mechanically. Vaccine timing is chosen to protect people when they become susceptible to infection and when their immune response is expected to be useful. Infants therefore receive several primary doses early in life, followed by boosters that reinforce protection as immunity and exposure patterns change. For nursing practice, the central question is not simply, “Which vaccine is due?” It is, “Which doses are documented, what is due at this person’s current age, and can it be given safely today?” Provincial and territorial programmes determine the operational schedule, so a nurse must recognise the general pattern while verifying the current local recommendations.
